Who we are

Stephanie Morales has been working in the immigration field for over seventeen years.

She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2011, focusing on immigration and human rights. She earned B.A. degrees in English and Spanish from Tennessee Technological University in 2005.

Stephanie began her career in immigration law at The Bortel Firm, LLC, a small immigration law firm that focused on removal defense, family-based immigration, and humanitarian forms of immigration relief, including T and U visas, VAWA, and asylum. In her role at The Bortel Firm, Stephanie gained extensive experience with T visas, representing hundreds of labor trafficking victims and their families through all stages of the T visa process.

Stephanie later worked in the Immigrant Legal Services Program of the Volunteer Lawyers Network (VLN) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In her role at VLN, she recruited, trained and provided legal support to volunteer lawyers; conducted community outreach and education; and oversaw legal clinics.

In 2018, Stephanie opened Morales Law PLLC , initially focusing on providing legal assistance to other attorneys, primarily in the area of T visas and other complex issues. She later expanded to include direct client representation while continuing to provide assistance to attorneys in humanitarian relief cases, brief and motion writing, appeals, and case strategy.

Prior to law school and becoming a lawyer, she worked as a public school teacher, teaching ESL, English and Spanish. She is fluent in Spanish, having studied the language throughout college and receiving intensive instruction at La Academia de Español while living abroad in Quito, Ecuador for a time.

In her free time, Stephanie enjoys reading, running, biking (road and mountain), and hiking with her husband and dogs.
